Middlesex Street’s history stretches back centuries, originally known as Hogs Lane in Tudor times. By 1608, it had become part of a key commercial district and was renamed Peticote Lane, before finally taking on its current name around 1830. Number 16’s history goes back just as far as the street itself, first used as an inn and later being converted into a Shakespeare-era playhouse called The Boar’s Head Theatre. And there’s still plenty of history around to check out, including nearby Spitalfields and Peticote markets.
Middlesex Street essentially demarks the border between Spitalfields and the City of London. Nearby, you’ll find iconic landmarks including the hip Brick Lane, full of vibrant local amenities. And you’re easily connected to the rest of London via Underground stations such as Aldgate, Aldgate East, and Fenchurch Street Station.
