Originally a small rural village surrounded by fields, it changed dramatically after the arrival of the Great Western Railway and the opening of Paddington Station in 1854. Designed with contributions from Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the station became a major transport hub linking London with southwest England and Wales. The area grew with elegant terraces, canals, businesses, and hotels. Today, Paddington combines its Victorian heritage with modern developments, making it an important commercial, residential, and transport centre in London.
Paddington is a historic district in west London, located within the City of Westminster. Its development accelerated during the 19th century with the arrival of the Great Western Railway and the opening of Paddington Station in 1854. Designed by the renowned engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the station transformed the area into a major transport hub, connecting London with the west of England and Wales. Today, Paddington combines its rich railway heritage with modern commercial and residential development.
Commerce plays a vital role in Paddington’s economy. The area is home to offices, hotels, restaurants, cafés, and retail businesses that serve commuters, tourists, and local residents. In recent years, the Paddington Basin regeneration project has attracted technology firms, financial services, and healthcare organisations, creating new employment opportunities. Excellent transport connections, including the Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express, and London Underground, have further strengthened the area’s commercial importance.
Today, Paddington blends historic landmarks with contemporary architecture and waterside developments along the Grand Union Canal. Its strong transport links, thriving business community, and ongoing regeneration have established it as one of London’s leading commercial, residential, and transport centres.

One stop east on the Elizabeth line from Paddington and you’ll find yourself at upscale Bond Street. If you prefer to walk it, its 20 minutes tops. Here,124 and 128 Wigmore Street are a few doors apart on the same street. Both are Grade II listed Georgian townhouses that have been refurbished to a high standard. They are both dog friendly and share the meeting rooms at Number 128. 124 Wigmore Street has around 4,200 sq ft of private offices across five floors, with kitchens, showers, bike storage, air conditioning and outdoor space. 128 Wigmore Street has approximately 5,000 sq ft across five floors with meeting rooms, a breakout space and kitchens. An apartment on the top floor – very useful for visiting clients or out-of-town team members – is available to clients at a preferential rate.
In the last decade, Paddington has had a new lease of life. Massive investment into retail, hospitality and office space adjacent to the canal boosted it’s desirability and it’s now the first major station on both the Heathrow Express and of course the Elizabeth line which brings holiday makers and business travellers alike into the capital too. Paddington is now a critical part of London’s transport ecosystem. There are buses and taxis galore, as well as connection to GWR, Heathrow Express and Bakerloo, Circle, District, Hammersmith and City and Elizabeth Line services.
